Master Plan
Original House & Landscape
Phase I

The Laufenberg Residence
The Laufenberg Residence is located in a well-established neighborhood in Bozeman, MT. The Laufenberg’s purchased this existing home, completed extensive remodeling and contacted 9bark DESIGN to create a new landscape master plan to guide renovation to the outdated existing landscape. Phase I focused on improvements to the front yard areas. Creation of front yard spaces to socialize and relax, places for the children to explore and gardens designed to frame the stately exterior of the home and to reflect the seasonal changes were the guiding principles in developing the landscape plan.

The long drive passes through existing aspen trees. These areas were supplemented with more aspen, deciduous shrubs, ornamental grasses and daylilies. A low sinuous berm was designed to provide separation and screening of the generous drive and parking area located at the front door. The berm was anchored with native moss rock boulders. A mix of deciduous and evergreen shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses create the garden aspect of the bermed area. A small flagstone patio embraced by a low curved dry stack stone wall provides an area for friends to socialize while the children play and explore along the garden path. An alternative seating area finds afternoon shade near the garage wall.  The gardens will evolve and bring the yard to life as they mature; the changing colors and textures of seasonal change lend beauty throughout the year.
