The Cormany Residence
The Cormany Residence is located north of Bozeman, MT. Views from the site are expansive and breathtaking in all directions across the Gallatin Valley. The owners envisioned a landscape setting for their home that borrowed design and planting concepts from traditional English gardens, yet translated into a Big Sky Montana environment. Materials used for hard surfaces, walls and landscape structures were borrowed from the rustic architecture of the home. The intensive, domesticated landscape is designed to provide comfortable, interesting outdoor living spaces that allow unobstructed views to the panorama of the outlying valley.

The entrance is defined by a low stone wall and rustic wooden arbor sited within planting beds filled with the seasonal color and texture of shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses. The lawn creates the frame around the formal landscaping and provides an area for play and relaxation. The east side of the home is featured with a generous patio, inviting all to sit and enjoy the magnificent view to the Bridger Mountains. Planting beds flank the patio area, showcasing a changing palette of color and texture throughout the seasons. A dry creek bed/drainage to the south maintains the historic drainage pattern of the site and works to create the transition into dryland grasses and beyond.
